On the last day of this extended history journey, I went to Nara and visited Todaiji Temple. The Great Buddha sat inside the huge wooden hall, calm and silent. Tourists looked up, children whispered, and deer moved freely outside.
A Japanese teacher named Mr. Mori explained that Buddhism has shaped Japanese art, funerals, temples, and ideas about life and death for many centuries. He also said that many Japanese families move between different religious customs without feeling a sharp conflict.
In the afternoon, I passed a small church near the station. Its bell rang softly while temple visitors continued walking toward the park.
I thought back to Xavier in Yamaguchi, the martyrs in Nagasaki, Miura Ayako in Asahikawa, and the red gates of Fushimi Inari. Nara taught me that understanding Japan requires humility, because faith, tradition, culture, and history often stand together in the same street.
